2. We spent significant time last year discussing how to improve our middle school experience. We want our 7th and 8th graders to have their own identity, not just be the youngest in the school. We want them to have unique leadership and service opportunities. This year, we have designed a new "Crusader Class" that middle school students will experience several times a week. They will choose from among many attractive elective opportunities and each class will last approximately three weeks, and then they will choose another one. We would love to have parents volunteer to teach a class. It would mean nine classes over a period of three weeks, each one 43 minutes long, at either 1:29 or 2:17 pm. If you have a hobby or a talent that would translate well into a class like this, would you please consider teaching a class? The ideas are infinite: origami, magic tricks, storytelling, French, debate, crocheting/knitting, chess, caligraphy - and the list could go on and on. If you are interested, please connect with Dick McMorrow: email@example.com

4. Summer has passed the halfway point, which means that the first day of the 2017-2018 school year isn't far off. We all hear that "brain drain" is very real in the summer. Please encourage your student to read - every day if possible. This activity doesn't need to be long or complicated. The newspaper or magazines have excellent daily reading selections. Consistency matters - and every day is best!
