Drama Club is hosting a Christmas movie tomorrow, Dec. 19 at 4:00 pm in Holy Angels. They will show Elf and Charlie Brown Christmas. Treats (hot chocolate and cookies) will be served and there will be drawings for prizes. This event is open to the whole family. Admission is free with the purchase of a $1 raffle ticket.
The CHS Dance Show is Jan. 10 in the Cathedral North Gym. This big event will draw a huge crowd - you don't want to miss it! Shows are 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The Cathedral Dance Team will be featured along with dancers from other schools and studios. Adults are $7 and students, K-12 are $5.
A parent recently sent me information about a presentation on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the River's Edge Convention Center entitled "Boozing, Doping and Identifiers: Parents Can't Stop What They Don't Know"(7:00 to 8:30 pm). The session is $5 and you may register online through Resource Training and Solutions. This event is at the same time as a speaker here at Cathedral (Raising Children in a Digital Age). They both sound like excellent presentations; it's unfortunate that you have to choose one!
From our Chaplain, Father Ben:
Advent blessings to you we continue towards the Christmas solemnity! I just wanted to connect with you again about the Jason Evert seminar that we had last Thursday. Jason spoke for close to an hour and half about dating, chastity, and abstinence. Judging from feedback, the amount of materials that were taken by the students after the seminar and their attentiveness to him, the seminar seemed to speak to them. Again, the materials are available to you as well including a recording of the seminar itself which is titled Love or Lust. You can either contact Deb Schnettler or me to get those materials for free. You can also access those and much more resources online at the chastity project.com. Remember, some of the materials are especially geared towards you as parents. I believe that you may find them very helpful in some of the questions you ask as parents.
The teachers in the Theology Department and I will be discussing further ways in which we will do some followup to this seminar. Jason’s basic premise of “loving and respecting” versus “lusting and using” goes hand in hand with our theme of “respect” this year at Cathedral. If you would have any questions regarding the seminar or feedback, please don’t hesitate to contact me at Cathedral.
You will be in my prayers during this Christmas Holiday!
Fr. Ben Kociemba
Our Little Feet Respect Life group is conducting a diaper drive until tomorrow, Dec. 19. All donated items will go to Annamarie's Alliance. There is a great need for baby items, children's winter clothing (hats, gloves, scarves, etc.), diapers, and gift certificates for mom. If you don't have a favorite charity at Christmas, this is a great way to donate at this holiday time. Items may be placed beneath our large Christmas tree.
The Spirit Shop will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, when school is in session, 2:00 to 4:30 pm. We will have a special holiday shopping event on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 5:30 - 8:00 pm.
Just a reminder as the holiday season approaches: any treats that come to school must be peanut free.
January 12 is our target date for the next step in providing security for our school. The front doors, along with all other doors on our campus, will be locked during the school day. Anyone, students, parents, delivery personnel, etc. will need to push the buzzer at the right side of the front doors (west side) to be buzzed into the school. Someone in the Main Office, Rose Marsyla or Mary Henry, will be able to see and converse with the party seeking admission. Obviously this means that our students must continue to use the tunnels even after the weather improves in the spring. We will work hard to continue to offer a welcoming atmosphere, while at the same time, providing the best security for our students.
Mark your calendars for Jan. 27. Our big event during Catholic Schools Week is speaker Erin Walsh. She will speak to parents that evening on raising children and young adults in a digital age. We will open this evening up to all parents of Catholic school children in St. Cloud. It's such a timely subject and Ms. Walsh is a well-known expert in this field.
