Dear Parents,
CHS Class of 2015 Parent Meeting
Monday, February 9th at 7:00 PM in the Cafeteria
Attention Senior Parents:
It’s hard to believe your children are beginning the last semester of
their Senior year. This meeting is for the benefit of senior parents and
will provide important information relating to the Baccalaureate Mass,
Senior Get-Away, Senior Breakfast, Awards Presentation, Graduation
Ceremony, and the All Night Graduation Party. Many of the activities are
organized by volunteers, so knowing the deadlines and getting forms,
photos, and other items back in a timely manner is appreciated. It is highly recommended that at least one parent attend the meeting.
We
had a great Sno Daze Dance on Saturday evening. Thanks to the teachers
and parents who chaperoned. We had about 240 students who danced all
night. The theme was Red/White/Blue. Midway through the dance, they
stopped the music and played the Star Spangled Banner. Every kid faced the flag, and sang with their hands on their hearts. It was really quite moving.
There
is just a hint of spring in the air. I know that we'll have many more
winter days yet, but I didn't expect senior spring fever in January!
Please remind your senior - and we will too - that it is absolutely
necessary to work until the school year ends. The college that your
student wishes to attend will receive the final transcript. We expect
seniors to behave as well during this last semester as they have
throughout their years here at CHS. Please keep talking to your
children about chemical use. Even good kids do dumb things. Research
tells us that you as parents have the most influence over their
behavior. Your guidelines, along with constant conversations about what
you expect, are more important than peer pressure. In case you didn't
know, the penalties for chemical use, alcohol or drugs, are severe at
CHS. They include ineligibility for a period of time for
sports/activities, in school suspension, a chemical evaluation, and a
series of meetings with a chemical counselor.
On
Tuesday evening, we are hosting an excellent speaker on a very relevant
topic: Erin Walsh will be speaking about "Raising Children and Teens in
the Digital Age." We will serve a light chili supper for parents ahead
of this event, starting at 5:30 pm. Erin, who is an expert in this
field, will speak in Holy Angels at 7:00 pm. I'm hoping that every
parent is planning to attend! Come early, eat and socialize with other
parents.
On
Wednesday, we will all be traveling out to St. John's to celebrate
Catholic schools at a Mass with Bishop Kettler at noon. We ask that
students wear either their blue Faith and Service shirts, or some
Cathedral apparel, if they have it.
