Cathedral High School is pleased to announce the Cathedral High School Board of Directors' recent approval of a ten-member task force to recommend a design/build partner for the construction of a new 21st century academic building at 7th Avenue and 4th Street North in St. Cloud, MN.
Board Chair Father Tom Knoblach said, “As we remember with profound gratitude the past of Cathedral, we also invest in its future with the Campaign for Cathedral and enhancing our facilities. Our thanks for well over a century of Cathedral motivate us to create a place for the coming generations to share in this legacy. The Cathedral Board of Directors, Bishop Kettler and the members of the Corporate Board remain in full enthusiastic support of this critical step in securing the future for Cathedral and all of Catholic Community Schools.”
Over the last several years, many meetings involving alumni, staff, families, friends, and a variety of stakeholders resulted in a decision to keep the Cathedral campus on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown St. Cloud. Cathedral has operated continuously at its current location since 1884 and is among the older organizations in Central Minnesota.
To-date the Campaign has generated approximately $11,000,000 in commitments, leaving $5,500,000 to be raised during this final push. We are enormously grateful to each donor who has already stepped forward. The design/build planning process will parallel the final fundraising, allowing the project to stay on schedule.
While $15,000,000 is designated for the new building, $1,500,000 will support capital needs within the elementary schools of Catholic Community Schools.
Future phases of the Campaign are expected to include a major renovation of the school’s 1938 building, including worship space, and a major expansion/improvement of athletic facilities.
Groundbreaking is anticipated for the summer of 2018, with dedication and occupancy in time for the 2019-20 school year.
The task force will be inviting local firms to participate in a "Request For Qualifications" process, with final selection and approval of the design/build partner anticipated for late November 2017.
