Mock trials are a simulation of a judicial proceeding, that is, the actual enactment of either a civil or criminal case. Students play each of the principals in the cast of courtroom characters. The objectives of the Mock Trial include:
- To develop a practical understanding of the way in which the American legal system functions
- To help students increase basic life and leadership skills such as critical and creative thinking, effective communication, and reasoning
- To heighten appreciation for academic studies and promote positive scholastic achievement
The goal is not to win for the sake of winning, but to learn and understand the meaning of good citizenship in a democracy through participation in our system of law and justice. Mock Trial is open to students in grades 9-12.
